There
was once a not so young man
living
in a not so far land.
His life
was not so average,
a
pleasant being whose sole goal was to keep others happy and smiling.
He had a
large heart
and
wonderful mind,
which
had both been tainted by the friends of Life,
Trial
and Tribulation.
On a not
so beautiful day
having a
not so easy chat with himself
while
sitting on a not so large rock
Love
came by and asked the not so young man,
He told
Love that his heart was shrinking and his mind was rotting.
“Why?”
Love asked
while
she sat down next to him and placed her comforting arm around his shoulders
“It’s
Life, he keeps stealing a part of my heart each day
and
throws rubbish in my mind.”
Love
smiled
and
stroked the back of his neck,
“That is
the purpose of Life, to hit you when you are down
and take
from you that which cannot be taken.”
“So what
should I do? How do you keep Life from taking from you?”
“I plant
seeds in my heart and mind
that
grow into bountiful forests.”
“Seeds?”
The not
so young man asked with a look confusion splashed across his face.
“Yes,
seeds of all that is good.”
She then
reached into a small, brown, leather bag
which
was tied to her waist
and
pulled out two sticks,
with
what seemed to be berries stuck to their ends
and gave
them to him.
“What is
this?”
“Seeds.”
With
that, Love floated away on a not so stiff breeze and whispered,
“I
exist, not only through myself, but through you.”

hey fellow poet,
ReplyDeletei really like this poem. i love how you used dialogue and structure to turn it into a narrative story. it's really thoughtful. i also like how you used the negative function for definite descriptions ("a not so..."). it fits really well.
i was wondering if you could take a look at my blog (link is in my profile). its just getting started and has little to no traffic. i would also be more than happy to feature a link to your blog on mine (if you want).
greetings jessica.
Deletethank you kindly for your interest and more so for your insightful critique. just took a look at the work on your blog, i think you would like the work of south african poet keorapetse kgosisile, particularly his book "this way i salute you." something about yourself makes me think you will appreciate it. by the way, i don't mind if you do that. otherwise, keep writing and live poetically. may jah guide and protect you pon your journey. bless...
